Question: DS: Q about leads and collars for shows?
1. would a nylon matingale collar & lead be enough for an ibizan hound? my daughter is getting an ibizan and has commented that she might get another show lead because shes seen handlers using a snake chain. but she has a martingale similar to this http://cgi.ebay.com/CUSTOM-BEADED-DOG-SHOW-LEAD-LEASH-MARTINGALE-RUST-/380262831090?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item58896e53f2 that we purchased at a dog show.
2. can you advocate a training DVD for handlers? i want to get her one as a birthday present.
3. when a dog wins over the rest of its breed is that best of breed ? then it moves onto judging in the group itself and the winner is called? and then the winders from the groups are moved into one ring what is the winner called there? im sorry my daughter is the one obsessesed and sometimes she even gets it wrong because shes so use to speaking to me.
4. would a 2″ wide martingale collar be good for an ibizan outside of the ring? would one with leather and padding be easier on the neck? or a cloth martingale with mild padding
5. for those that show dogs do you keep a collar on even in the house, or just when you go out?
she will be 21 soon and will be a first time handler breeder has offered to be her mentor she is handling the dog herself with classes. dog will be a show calibre ibizan hound.

She needs to get a handling trainer that can instruct her the proper things. Most of these questions should be bounced off the breeder/mentor if the breeder is actively involved in showing her dogs. 3
3. Yes, best of breed is when they win over all other dogs in the breed, regardless of the class the dog competed in. Then it’s best in group (or Group First) then best in show.
4. Potentially a 2″ martingale would work for the dog as a regularly collar. I like nylon with significant padding for my martingales. I might even go wider.
5. Is up to you, but you won’t want to be dealing with collar marks at the show.
